THE ŢICĂU HILLS (NW TRANSYLVANIA—RUMANIA) — LITHOSTRATIGRAPHY AND PETROLOGY OF THE METAMORPHIC ROCKS
Abstract
Ţicău Hills rerpresents one of the crystalline islands of NW Transsylvania, in which the pre-Variscian basement of the Tisia Domain outcrops. A lithostratigraphic sequence is described consisting of a lower, Magmatogene Stejera-Cheud Member with five subunits and an upper, Terrigenouse Chelinta Member, with three marker horizons. Three metamorphic phasis were recognized: the first (main) phase developed progressively, the second, retrogressively and the final, progressively. Probably these metamorphic phases were related to the Caledonian and the Hercynian events. Late alterations are due to hydrothermal activity and intensive Paleogene weathering phenomena.
