CRENULATION CLEAVAGE FROM THE LOW GRADE METAMORPHITES OF THE LESSER GARHWAL HIMALAYA, INDIA
Abstract
In the Lesser Garhwal Himalaya, the low-grade metamorphites which have reached up to the biotite zone of greenschist facies, exhibit well developed crenulation cleavages. Different parameters such as preexisting fabric, metamorphism, grain-size and cleavage spacing have been used to study their influence on the cleavage morphology. The microstructural study reveal that the crenulation cleavage in this part of the Himalayas has developed by the combined mechanism of solution-transfer and metamorphic differentiation with a slight influence of differential plastic flattening.
